Mahasamadhi Function of Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya

Lahiri Mahasaya established no organization during his lifetime, but made this prediction: "About fifty years after my passing, an account of my life will be written because of a deep interest in Yoga that will arise in the West. The message of Yoga will encircle the globe. It will aid in establishing the brotherhood of man: a unity based on humanity's direct perception of the one Father."

Lahiri Mahasaya entered mahasamadhi in Banaras, September 26, 1895. Fifty years later, in America, his prediction was fulfilled when an increasing interest in yoga in the West inspired Paramahansa Yogananda to write Autobiography of a Yogi, which contains a beautiful account of Lahiri Mahasaya's life.

The Mahasamadhi function of Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya was held at YSS Noida Ashram on September 26, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the basement Dhyan Mandir.

Brahmachari Sheelanandaji conducted the meditation and satsanga. In his satsanga, Brahmachariji highlighted the exalted state of Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya as mentioned in the Autobiography of a Yogi. He encouraged all the devotees present to take inspiration from the same and strive for deeper meditation at the personal level.

Nearly 150 devotees attended the evening function which was followed by prasad distribution by Brahmachariji.

Swami Lalitanandaji conducted the special satsanga with great devotion and evoked spiritual upliftment.

Leading the commemoration programme with cosmic chants, Swami Lalitandaji read the chapter from the Autobiography of a Yogi where our beloved Guruji has described Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya’s life which he had learnt of from the direct disciples Sri Keshvanandaji, Sri Pranavanandji and Sri Panchanan Bhattacharya.

Our Paramguru Swami Sri Yukteswarji met beloved Mahavatar Babaji at the Kumbh Mela in 1894 where he was told that Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya would not continue his worldly journey for long.

It was on his insistence to Babaji that Kriya Yoga should be shared with householders who are ardent believers of the divine that we are able to practice the sacred Kriya technique today. Banat Banat Ban Jai was his favourite slogan with which he used to encourage his disciples.

Closing the satsanga at 7 p.m, Swamiji gave away prasad to the devotees.

A long meditation was conducted on September 24, just ahead of the Mahasamadhi Divas of programme.
